Empowering Youth Through Basketball Excellence

The South Sudanese Australian National Basketball Association (SSANBA) is a unifying community organisation dedicated to empowering South Sudanese athletes, fostering leadership, and strengthening cultural identity through the sport of basketball. Established in response to the growing presence and remarkable potential of South Sudanese players across Australia in 2003 by Manyang Berberi and partners, SSANBA serves as both a sporting pathway and a community development platform, ensuring young people have access to opportunities that extend far beyond the court.

SSANBA was founded on the belief that basketball can be a powerful agent for personal growth, social connection, and collective pride. From its earliest days, the organisation has focused on creating structured leagues, tournaments, and development programs that nurture talent at all levels—from grassroots juniors to elite prospects with national and international ambitions. This commitment has helped cultivate a strong sporting culture and has contributed to the success stories of many South Sudanese athletes competing nationally and abroad.

Beyond sports development, SSANBA plays a vital role in strengthening community cohesion.
